Biography

Marco Tamburro was born in Perugia in 1974 where he also graduated in architecture and design; in 1994 he moves to Milan where he enrolls in the Brera Institute on Fine Arts. Here he enters into contact with the vibrant artistic environment the city has to offer, and he starts collaborating with photographers and scenographers as an assistant. Not a casual choice since Marco has already developed a strong interest for the theatre and it is here that he begins creating large pictorial panels.

Marco’s first great passion is in fact photography. In Milan, he collaborates with professional photographers of different backgrounds exploring different dimensions from reportage photography to still photography to fashion photography.  It is thanks to photography that he discovers this tool to communicate reality through the poetic lens and his personal vision in black and white with great use of light.  From analogue photography to direct interactions of paint on photographs, he then quickly shifts on to painting, bringing all the experience he gained in the photographic world and his lessons on the usage of light that now enhances his power of expression.

At a time when we question where this form of art will lead, Tamburro is overrun by a great power of expression that enables him to communicate a strong message through simple images. He reflects on the speculation and the versatility of this form of art by interacting with others such as theatre, photography, interior design, architecture, and any other form of art that permits him to create scenography.

In Milan, he exposes for the first time his work in different galleries and alternative spaces mostly linked with the fashion and design worlds.

Forever drawn by the infinite beauty of the capital city, Rome, he moves here where his passion for the theatrical world can be largely nourished. Here he collaborates with several troupes, establishes a Cultural Association that focuses primarily on visual arts, and is fully dedicated to painting.

In 1999 he graduates from the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome and aside from his qualifications, he will also complete his training.

Surrounded by the splendour Rome has to offer, he acquires a mature mastery of his art, and he quickly starts mingling in the Roman artistic jet set, meeting important and well-known gallerists and art critics, and exposing his work in several galleries by participating in different collective exhibitions of emerging artist. through which he receives great appraisals.

In 2019 he founds an Art Factory of contemporary art by the name of STUDIO8. With this project, Marco’s mission is to let the ancient artistic world interact with the new modern one by weaving collaborations with international artists and promoting his work abroad.

This cultural environment elevates him to be a committed artist. Thanks to diversified speculation on the same theme, Tamburro reflects deeply on everyday life, on the concept of coercion through to that of depersonalisation of humans where these in today’s world only exist but do not live swallowed by the urban whirlpool of life, becoming detached and alienated and finally losing the sense of the value of life itself.

In this scenario, the human figure occupies only a marginal role in his paintings, like a shadow, a spectrum worn out by time, constantly chasing urban paths highlighted in pedestrian crossings, and infinite skyscrapers. Here humans are inevitably crushed by today’s modern metropolis that has become a hostile and aggressive symbol of power.

The utilisation of photographic clippings so overbearing in his first work is slowly and progressively decreasing whereas painting becomes the primary medium of expression. Extensive backgrounds of black and white give room to splashes of red to best express Marco’s vision of the “theater of life”.

The acclaim and consent that Marco received from the art market and art collectors attracted the attention of public institutions and several galleries that are now more and more interested in his work which eventually reflects in major exhibitions such as the Biennale in Venice, Marco in Rome, Castel dell’Ovo in Naples, Palazzo Penna in Perugia, Palazzo Medici in Florence, Palazzo Frisacco in Udine. As a result, his works also attract the international market with exhibitions in Miami, New York, San Paolo, in China, as well as Edinburgh, Munich, London, and Berlin in Europe.

Marco’s work has been published in many important art magazines and has been greatly acclaimed by many exponents of the art world like Renato Civello, Maurizio Sciaccaluga, Vito Rivello, Luca Beatrice, Enzo Santese, Barbara Martusciello, Floriano De Santis, Antonio Arevalo, Ennio Calabria, Gianluca Marziani to name a few and they all agree on the strong identity of Tamburro’s work.
